How to play Card Solitaire: Word Sort
Drag gold category cards marked with a home icon (such as "Seasons") into the empty house slots at the top. Then, drag matching word cards from the columns onto their corresponding category pile until the counter (e.g., 4/4) is complete. Uncover face-down cards in the columns and tap the numbered stockpile in the upper right when you need fresh cards. Watch your remaining moves and plan your sorting order carefully.
About Card Solitaire: Word Sort
Card Solitaire: Word Sort swaps traditional suits and numbers for brain-teasing word associations. Instead of building from Ace to King, your goal is to identify golden topic cards—marked with a house icon and a collection counter—and gather every related word card hidden across the tableau.
Because the top home slots can only hold a limited number of active categories at once, timing is everything. Activating a category too early when most of its matching words are still buried face down can clog your slots and stall your progress.
Card Solitaire: Word Sort rules
- Gold category cards feature a home icon and a progress tracker (such as 0/4) showing how many matching word cards belong to that theme.
- Move category cards into the empty house slots above the tableau to open them for collection.
- Drag matching face-up word cards from the tableau columns or draw pile onto their matching active category slot.
- Once a category reaches full capacity (for example, 4/4), the completed stack clears automatically, freeing up that home slot for a new topic card.
- Tap the numbered stockpile in the top right corner to deal additional cards when no direct matches are available on the board.
Tips for your next game
- Check visible words before activating a category: Before placing a gold category card into a house slot, scan the face-up tableau to make sure you can immediately feed at least one or two matching words into it.
- Prioritize deep stacks: Whenever you have multiple valid moves, clear word cards sitting on top of the tallest face-down columns first to reveal trapped cards underneath.
- Finish one theme to free up space: Focus on completing an active category to 100% rather than opening three categories that only have one available card each.
- Conserve your stockpile draws: Exhaust every possible match on the tableau before tapping the top-right deck so you don't bury useful cards.
Frequently asked questions
How does Card Solitaire: Word Sort differ from traditional Klondike Solitaire?
Instead of sorting 52 playing cards by alternating colors and suits, you sort word cards into thematic categories (like Seasons, Animals, or Royalty) using limited home slots.
What do the house icon and 0/4 counter on a card mean?
Cards with a house icon are main category headers. Once moved into a top home slot, the counter (such as 0/4) tracks how many matching word cards you have collected out of the total needed to complete and clear that topic.
What happens if all home slots are full and I can't make a match?
You can still rearrange eligible cards on the tableau or draw from the stockpile in the upper right corner to uncover the missing words needed to finish and clear an active category slot.
What does the number on the top-right card deck indicate?
It shows how many cards or deals remain in your stockpile. Use them wisely when no direct matches are available on the main columns.
